Wellbeing is a combination of a person's physical, mental,   emotional and social health. Every aspect of life contributes to a person's state of wellbeing and are linked to how the individual feels about themselves and life. It can include a positive state of being, the ability to deal with life's challenges and having a sense of purpose and control.

Managing Depression and Anxiety -

Depression is a state of low mood and aversion to activity. It can affect a person's thoughts, behavior, motivation, feelings, and sense of well-being. It may feature sadness, difficulty in thinking and concentration and a significant increase or decrease in appetite and time spent sleeping. People experiencing depression may have feelings of dejection, hopelessness and, sometimes, suicidal thoughts. It can either be short term or long term.

Here are just a few ways that you can help Manage your Depression and Anxiety:

  • Keep moving. Even mild exercise improves both mood and inflammation.
  • You’ve heard it already, but it bears repeating: Stress management is critical for good health
  • Keep a worry journal to “capture” your dark feelings on the page.
  • Don’t ignore support systems, seek counseling, or reach out to friends or family if you feel overwhelmed by your depression or anxiety.

Bullying NO WAY! -

The National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence (NDA) is an important day to mark Australian school communities standing together against bullying and violence

Talking and teaching about bullying through everyday opportunities is the best way to make it clear that bullying is never ok.

Talking about bullying means it can't be hidden or overlooked in the busy school or family day. Conversations provide opportunities for students to raise issues that adults may not have noticed, and to discuss concerns before they become long-term and entrenched.

R U OK -

  • 2020 has been a challenging year for everyone and circumstances have made it even more important for us all to stay connected and, for those who are able, be willing to support those around us.

  • You don't have to be an expert to keep the conversation going when someone says they're not OK. By knowing what to say you can help someone feel supported and access appropriate help long before they're in crisis, which can make a really positive difference to their life.

  • Got a feeling that someone you know or care about it isn't behaving as they normally would? Perhaps they seem out of sorts? More quiet, sad or upset? Or they're just not themselves. Trust that gut instinct and act on it!

By starting a conversation and commenting on the changes you have noticed, you could help that family member or friend open up. If they say they are not ok, show them they are supported and help them find strategies to feel better. If they are ok, that person will know you are someone who cares enough to ask.

The Internet is without a doubt one of the best resources available to us. Unfortunately it's also extremely dangerous if you aren't aware of who and what lurks behind the scenes. Everyone should know how to be safe when surfing the web, but internet safety tips and tricks are spread out all over the web without a go-to resource. Since the majority of internet scam and virus victims are students and young people, Open Colleges is a perfect place to post the very first full guide to being safe on the internet.
