Senior secondary

Senior secondary includes students in years 10 through to 12. While Dysart High is a small school, it offers a diverse range of subjects, supplemented by additional courses offered through Brisbane School of Distance Education, TAFE and other learning institutions.  All lessons are 70 minutes in duration.

 

Year 10

 
All year 10 students study a core curriculum, which is then enhanced through the delivery of some core certificate courses.
 
Core studies studied for the full year:
 
  • English - 3 lessons per week
  • Science - 3 lessons per week
  • Mathematics - 3 lessons per week
 
Each of the following subjects will be studied for a term:
 
  • The Arts - 3 lessons per week
  • Drama - 3 lessons per week
  • Information Communication and Technology (ICT) - 3 lessons per week
  • Information Technology and Design (ITD - wood and metal work) - 3 lessons per week

 

Each of the following subjects will be studied for a semester:
 
  • Health and physical education (HPE) - 3 lessons per week
  • Civics and Citizenship - 3 lessons per week
  • Geography - 3 lessons per week
  • History - 3 lessons per week
 
A wellbeing program is also delivered 2 lessons per week focusing on:
 
  • Respect, responsibility and resilience
  • Self esteem
  • Team building
  • Career development
  • Personal health and responsibility
           
 

Year 11/12

 
All year 11 and 12 students study a core curriculum, which is then enhanced through the delivery of certificate courses.
 
All students must study:
 
  • English - English or English communication - 3 lessons per week
  • Mathematics - Mathematics B, Mathematics A or Pre-vocational Mathematics - 3 lessons per week
 
Additional board subjects offered include:
 
  • Biology
  • Business communication & technology (BCT)
  • Legal studies

 

Additional board registered subjects offered include:

 

  • Social and Community Studies
  • Media Arts in Practice
  • Visual Arts in Practice
  • Furnishing Skills

 

Additional VET subjects offered include:

 

  • Certificate II in Hospitality
  • Certificate II in Business
  • Certificate I in Construction
  • Certificate II in Engineering (mining focus)
 
Students can also study a range of other subjects and certificate courses through Brisbane School of Distance Education for example: Chemistry, Physics, Ancient and Modern History.
